I believe the essence of arts therapy lies in witnessing story. In feeling heard, perhaps for the very first time. We don't always needs words for this to happen.

The tale of the grey wolf

Wolves move deftly between connection and independence, running together in community while standing firmly in their mana.

I have always been drawn to the wolf’s quiet, majestic strength and often ambiguous nature. Wolves create warm, protective dens to nurture their whānau - safe havens where rest, growth, and renewal are possible even through the harshness of winter.

At times, we all need a little re-wilding: a return to our instincts, creativity, and inner strength. Who better to guide that journey than the fluid, intuitive wuruhi.

What is Creative Arts Therapy

Creative Arts Therapy is a multi-modal approach that supports wellbeing, healing, and self-awareness through creative expression. This may include drawing, painting, movement, sculpting, dramatic play, or rhythm, offering different pathways into reflection and growth.

When words feel insufficient, the arts can help express emotion and support regulation. Across cultures and throughout history, creativity has been a way to grieve, celebrate, and make meaning. Contemporary neuroscience now helps explain why, highlighting processes such as neuroplasticity and emotional regulation.

I work with people of all ages in collaborative, client-led ways, allowing the arts to guide the process while honouring each person’s agency in their journey.

Who am I?

Kia ora,

I’m Amelia, a registered Creative Arts Therapist with ANZACATA, the professional body for creative arts therapists across Aotearoa, Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region.

With Welsh, Polish, and English roots, I was raised in Australia and now call Aotearoa home. I’ve always been drawn to theatre, storytelling, and the quiet companionship of a good book. You’ll often find me exploring the landscapes of this country on foot or by bicycle.

I have set up a creative arts den in Mt Eden,  Auckland, a welcoming haven from the outside world. It is a space where you can arrive just as you are. My practice is gentle, client-centred, neuroaffirming, and trauma-informed. As tangata tiriti, I work relationally and aim to offer a non-judgemental, sensory-aware, grounding experience.

Together, we may talk, create, move, sculpt, tell stories, or simply pause. This is a collaborative space where you can explore at your own pace.

Haere mai.
